As the health care “debate” continues, don’t expect to hear stories like the one out of Canada on the video below. Expect to hear demagogic argument-by-assertion like this statement from Sarah van GelderĀ in her article over at the Huffington Post: “Single-payer health care is a system, like Canada’s, in which the government provides health insurance for everyone. It is simple, straightforward, has a much lower cost, and it works.” [Emphasis mine]. Well, debate over, I guess!
Actually, I don’t there’ll be much of a debate because both sides seem committed to lying, obfuscating, bedeviling, hiding, and distorting the facts in these matters, which is a horrific tragedy, seeing as few issues affect people’s lives more than health care. If we’ve ever needed a well-reasoned, dispassionate, search for the truth, it’s on health care; so that the American people can soberly assess what the best options are and make informed decisions. I want to see more people get health care, truly get health care. We need to be able to look at all possible options for how we can best achieve this. If you want to read more, lots more, that you probably won’t hear throughout this debate, take a gander at some of the many articles linked here.
