Top 6: Communist Leaders in Song Lyrics

with 2 comments

I was listening to R.E.M. the other day and heard Leonid Brezhnev mentioned in their song It’s the End of the World as We Know it (And I feel fine).  I couldn’t help but try and recall a few more song “gems” with Communist leaders mentioned.  So, just for fun, I came up with my Top 6.  I won’t opine about them, but I have included each song’s link to Youtube. I am particularly fond of Makem and Clancy’s Irish Pub Song -coming in at #6, as Casey Kasem used to say.

1. Leonid Brezhnev in R.E.M.’s It’s the End of the World as We Know it (and I feel fine)

2. Fidel Castro in Bob Dylan’s Motorpsycho Nitemare

3. Mao Zedong (mentioned as “Chairmen Mao”) in The Beatles Revolution

4. Joseph Stalin in Living Colour’s Cult of Personality

5. Ho Chi Minh (and Joseph Stalin) in Billy Joel’s We Didn’t Start the Fire

6. Nikita Khrushchev in Makem and Clancy’s My Father Loves Nikita Khrushchev
