For your edification and meditation this week of Labor Day:

“The Lord God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to work it and keep it.” (Gen. 2:15)

“Six days you shall labor, and do all your work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work.” (Ex. 20:9-10)

“Unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it labor in vain.” (Ps. 127:1)

“Blessed is everyone who fears the Lordwho walks in his ways! You shall eat the fruit of the labor of your hands; you shall be blessed, and it shall be well with you.” (Ps. 128:1-2)

“Whoever works his land will have plenty of bread, but he who follows worthless pursuits lacks sense.” (Prov. 12:11); Whoever works his land will have plenty of bread, but he who follows worthless pursuits will have plenty of poverty.” (Prov. 28:19)

“Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established.” (Prov. 16:3)

“Whoever is slack in his work is a brother to him who destroys.” (Prov. 18:9)

“The desire of the sluggard kills him, for his hands refuse to labor.” (Prov. 21:25)

“Do you see a man skilled in his work; he shall stand before kings, he shall not stand before obscure men.” (Prov. 22:29)

“[An excellent woman] seeks wool and flax, and works with willing hands.” (Prov. 31:13)

“For all [mankind’s] days are full of sorrow, and his work is a vexation. Even in the night his heart does not rest. This also is vanity.” (Eccles. 2:23)

“So I saw that there is nothing better than that a man should rejoice in his work, for that is his lot. Who can bring him to see what will be after him?” (Eccles. 3:22)

“Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with your might, for there is no work or thought or knowledge or wisdom in Sheol, to which you are going.” (Eccles. 9:10)

“Do not extort money from anyone by threats or by false accusation, and be content with your wages.” (Luke 3:14)

“Let the thief no longer steal, but rather let him labor, doing honest work with his own hands, so that he may have something to share with anyone in need.” (Eph. 4:28)

“Bondservants [Employees], obey your earthly masters [bosses] with fear and trembling, with a sincere heart, as you would Christ, not by the way of eye-service, as people-pleasers, but as bondservants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart, rendering service with a good will as to the Lord and not to man, knowing that whatever good anyone does, this he will receive back from the Lord, whether he is a bondservant [employee] or is free. (Eph. 6:5-7)

“Whatever you do, work from the soul, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ.” (Col. 3:23-24)
