Mark Strand (1934-2014)

with one comment

The “Clint Eastwood” of poetry has died.  Mark Strand, former U.S. Poet Laureate left behind a body of poetry that has moved me ever since I was introduced to him as a young 20 year old. You would be enriched to explore his work.

The Coming of Light

Even this late it happens:
the coming of love, the coming of light.
You wake and the candles are lit as if by themselves,
stars gather, dreams pour into your pillows,
sending up warm bouquets of air.
Even this late the bones of the body shine
and tomorrow’s dust flares into breath.
